Falcon’s Creative Group Selected for Show Design of National Geographic Encounter: Ocean Odyssey in Times Square

Falcon’s Creative Group Selected for Show Design

Falcon’s Creative Group is part of the world-class creative team, led by SPE Partners, working to launch National Geographic Encounter, which opens in New York City’s Times Square with Ocean Odyssey, a first-in-kind immersive entertainment experience that transports audiences on a breathtaking undersea journey.

“Having the opportunity to work with SPE Partners and National Geographic has been an honor,” says Vice President of Falcon’s Creative Group, David Schaefer. “SPE Partners’ goal of developing cutting-edge world-class entertainment experiences, paired with the world-renowned brand of National Geographic, gave our creative team an amazing canvas to push the limits of design.”

National Geographic Encounter utilizes groundbreaking technology to create a new kind of experience that enables visitors to explore the depths of the ocean, getting face-to-face with its greatest wonders and mightiest creatures. In the 60,000 square-foot venue, the creative team has pushed the boundaries of technologies such as video mapping, 8K photo-real animation, mega projection screens, immersive sound and interactive “real-time” audience tracking, which allows guests to interact with sea lions, play with rays and dolphins, and come face-to-face with humpback whales, Humboldt squids, and great white sharks, all culminating in a giant dome finale.

National Geographic Encounter is produced, developed and managed by the creative minds of SPE Partners, under license from National Geographic.

“We have engaged a world-class creative team that includes Academy, Grammy® and Emmy® Award-Winning artists and are thrilled to collaborate with Falcon’s Creative Group,” says Lisa Truitt, Chief Creative Officer and Partner of SPE Partners. “With their award-winning creative work and unparalleled track record in themed entertainment experiences for Universal Studios, Marvel, and many others, Falcon’s Creative Group was a natural partner for us.”

“This experience is truly remarkable given its location in the middle of New York City. National Geographic Encounter: Ocean Odyssey will be a spectacular immersive journey that transports every guest to an undersea world like nothing they've ever encountered. It has been a pleasure to have been retained by SPE Partners to bring this incredible never-before-seen experience to life,” says Director of Project Management, Scott Miller.

Falcon’s Creative Group’s scope of work includes concept design through design development of the experience, media pre-production, and show design coordination through the opening. The experience will incorporate new innovations in entertainment technology to bring the ocean to life virtually, and to immerse guests in a world they might never otherwise get to see.

National Geographic Encounter: Ocean Odyssey is scheduled to open in October 2017.
