China: New Atlantis Sanya Resort Welcomes First Guests on Hainan Island

Story by EURO Amusement Professional

Just in time for the Chinese New Year celebrations in February (2018 is the “Year of the Dog“), the brand-new Atlantis Sanya Resort on Hainan Island in the South China Sea (cp. EAP news f. 14 Nov 2013) was opened a few weeks ago, welcoming its first guests. The new luxury resort, which is – besides the Atlantis Paradise Island Resort on the Bahamas and the Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai – the third development under the management of Kerzner International group. The new resort is owned by Chinese Fosun International. The 1.6 billion US dollar (just under 1.3 billion Euro) ocean-themed resort located in Haitang Bay, which is spread on a total area of 54 hectares, offers 1,314 guest rooms and suites.

The visitor offer also includes a 200,000 square meter large Aquaventure waterpark, featuring numerous water rides from ProSlide. The resort also features The Lost Chambers Aquarium, revealing the mystery of the ancient city of Atlantis and presenting numerous marine animals, including sharks, rays and other sea creatures. Orlando-based Falcon’s Creative Group was also involved in the design and development of the project, providing thematic and interior design services for the waterpark and the aquarium.

At Dolphin Cay, a marine protection and conservation facility, guests can swim and interact with dolphins. A wide range of dining options can be found at the 21 restaurants, lounges, bars and cafés of the resort. A spa area, boutiques, a conference center and multi-functional ballrooms complete the offer.

With The Royal Atlantis Resort & Residences in Dubai and Atlantis, Ko Olina in Hawaii two other Kerzner projects are currently in development. (eap)
